On the night of the harvest moon, an event called the "Moon Viewing Staircase Walk" is held, and visitors can climb approximately 600 exterior stairs to ascend Tokyo Tower. Continuing to the Main Deck (previously called the Large Observation Platform) at 150 meters, this exterior staircase is normally only open from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. However, on the night of the harvest moon, the staircase is open until 10:00 p.m., and lots of people visit to enjoy the view of the full moon and the city nightscape as they climb the stairs.
On the day of the event, essential moon viewing decorations like dumplings and silver grass adorn the staircase, and the tower is illuminated with special Moon Viewing Diamond Veil lighting designed to make the moon stand out even more. This year's harvest moon is September 24th. If you'd like to enjoy moon viewing in a different way this year, by all means stop by Tokyo Tower and try the Moon Viewing Staircase Walk for yourself!
