Through the Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE), which is registered as a general incorporated foundation, “Japanese Language for Working People” training courses are being conducted for the benefit of foreign residents. Concerning the "Promoting of Stable Employment for Foreign Residents," a project that the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare has entrusted to the foundation, JICE has conducted training courses in some 16 prefectures throughout the country since April 14th of this year. What is more, there are still many more courses to come that interested parties can apply to and participate in.

As to what can be learnt through these training courses, in addition to acquiring the language proficiency needed to work in Japan, participants can develop other types of knowledge and skills. Such assets include learning the ettiquete that is used in Japanese workplaces, developing an understanding of the nation’s labour laws and regulations, and receiving tips on how best to prepare CVs, etc. Furthermore, preparatory courses for sitting the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test are also offered, along with courses that help participants develop the language skills necessary to work in the field of nursing care. All of these courses are offered free-of-charge.
