June is “Environment Month,” and at various locations nationwide, events and campaigns will be held to get people thinking and acting about the environment. As to what has become the centerpiece of the month-long program, since 1990 the Ministry of the Environment has held its “ECOLIFE FAIR.” It is an ecology event held around June 5th annually (Environment Day), it being an occasion on which the ministry cooperates with numerous local public bodies, businesses, as well as NGOs and NPOs, etc. Again to be held along the scenic avenue of zelkova trees and in the Event Square of Yoyogi Park, ECOLIFE FAIR 2016 will take place on the 4th and 5th of June (Saturday and Sunday).


The theme for this year is “Loving the Earth. An Enjoyable Future,” and, in addition to a wide variety of displays that will allow visitors to consider close-up environmental issues such as “low carbon societies,” “environmentally-symbiotic societies,” “recycling societies” and “the efforts made to recover from the Great East Japan Earthquake,” on the ECOLIFE FAIR 2016 main stage there will be appearances made by the idol group, “,” and popular Yoshimoto Kogyo entertainers, both of whom will certainly enliven the atmosphere! Numerous activities are also planned that may be enjoyed by visitors accompanied by children. These include “Learn with Conan! An Ecology Quiz & Stamp Rally,” “Ecological Street Performances” and also the “Reading and Listening Caravan.” Moreover, there will be a coin art corner where visitors can donate their loose change and help complete the “Chief Duck” illustration, with it being planned that the proceeds collected will be donated to the areas impacted by the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake.

Furthermore, there will also be the Eco Food Court which has proven so popular every year. It will offer a range food and beverages whose core ingredients are organic. Moreover, in keeping with the atmosphere of an eco-friendly event, the plates and cutlery on hand will be reusable. ECOLIFE FAIR 2016 will be an event where visitors can enjoy learning about becoming eco-friendly, and while experiencing the many attractions on offer, they will have the chance to acquire behaviors that will help them revise their lifestyle.
