October 6th is designated by the Government of Japan as "International Cooperation Day". To celebrate this fact, each year on a weekend in early October, Tokyo's Hibiya Park hosts "Global Festa Japan", the nation's largest international cooperation event. To further familiarize all generations with the topic of international cooperation, a variety of related entities will participate in the 24th annual global festa to be held on October 4th and 5th. This year's event shall include non-government organizations (NGOs), national and international agencies, various foreign embassies and other businesses, etc. In addition to seeing all these stakeholders in a single location, visitors will be able to hear about their activities, witness various displays and buy related items. It is bound to be a lively event!

The theme for this year's global festa is "Smile Earth! Planting Seeds for the Future". The event will feature a fully-packed entertainment program. There will be a talk show featuring the singer, Mai Kuraki, and the author of a number of amusing travel journals, Teruko Takano. A live performance from the rock band, Under Graph, is also planned. Additionally, it is planned to bring a group of Maasai warriors from Kenya especially for the event! There will also be the ever-popular World Food Court that features an extensive line-up of stalls selling delicious cuisine from around the world, as well as annual attractions such as the refugee film festival, the charity run, somewhere to try on national costumes from around the world, and seminars dealing with employment opportunities in the field of international cooperation.

One of the major global festa events will be the charity run which allows participants to make an international contribution. Part of the entry fees raised will be donated to the projects declared in advance by the Committee of Global Festa Japan 2014. Because it is a "slow run" that allows participants to proceed on a course around the Imperial Palace at their own pace, any healthy person can participate. Entries for the charity run will be received until September 7th (Sunday). Interested parties are asked to apply (please note that entries will close once required numbers have been reached).

This year marks the "60th Anniversary of Japan's International Cooperation". Thus, plans are moving forward in preparing for an event that is even more entertaining than normal years. Wouldn't you like the opportunity to think about the future of international cooperation while learning about its current status quo and necessity at an event like global festa? For the future of the planet, we believe there is something that each and every one of us can do.
