When the weather has become milder in September, why not venture out and attend a festival held under autumn skies, a festival brimming with international attractions? With an annual attendance of more than 40,000 visitors, the Mitaka International Exchange Festival in Inokashira West Park is an extremely popular event. The festival, which enjoys its 24th anniversary this year, will be held on Sunday, September 22nd; it once again having the theme of "Let's join hands 'cause we're all one world!"

On the festival's main stage there will be performances of music and dance, including dances from the Peruvian Andes, Brazilian capoeira, Scottish bagpipes, African music, samba, and Okinawan Eisa, etc. Furthermore, at the tent-booth areas as well set aside for the different regions of Asia, the Americas, Europe, Africa and Oceania, etc., visitors will be welcomed by a range of interesting attractions including music and dance, opportunities to try on national dress, quizzes on different countries, and folk-art workshops. For elementary and junior high school children, fun will also be offered through entertainment such as a bingo rally and parachute games. Visiting family groups will also be able to fully enjoy themselves. At tent booths, there will be a range of food and drink available, as well as miscellanea on sale. This will give visitors a chance to eat unusual cuisine from different countries, as well as to shop for souvenirs.

Within the festival venue, there will be a booth highlighting the activities of the Mitaka International Society for HOsPitality (MISHOP), the event organizer. There will also be an area set aside for locally-based, related organizations to introduce their activities. For interested parties and those interested in volunteering themselves, the festival offers an opportunity to ask a range of questions.

Last year's festival was unfortunately cancelled by bad weather. This year, not just the planning and organizing staff, but also the embassies involved in booths, the NGOs and NPOs, the music and dance performers, etc., are all looking forward to welcoming visitors with two years' worth of enthusiasm. Don't miss this opportunity to experience something of the world in Mitaka on an early autumn day!
