The member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) such as Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia, etc., have become increasingly popular holiday choices for Japanese tourists. No doubt, many people are also planning their summer vacations this year to ASEAN destinations. If you visit ASEAN nations and manage to capture their beautiful scenery or an inspirational moment on camera, why not submit your photos to the "Somewhere I'd Like to Visit, the ASEAN Famous Sights Photo Contest," run by the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA)?

This contest is just one of a series of events celebrating the 40th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation. ASEAN, which was established in 1967, is a regional cooperative comprised of Southeast Asian countries, which currently has some 10 member states: Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia. ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation commenced in 1973 with the "ASEAN-Japan Forum on Synthetic Rubber." Over the following forty years, close cooperative ties have been created between the parties in fields such as trade and tourism, etc.

Using the opportunity of the approaching 40th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation, this year's photo contest is being held to let people know even more about ASEAN's attractions. Photos that may be entered are those taken in ASEAN countries (excluding Malaysia) in 2010 or later. Photos must have been taken by entrants themselves. Entries will be accepted until (Saturday) August 31, 2013. Winners will receive wonderful prizes such as return airline tickets to various ASEAN destinations, and gifts provided by the tourism bureaus of different ASEAN countries, etc.

Each ASEAN country has its own distinctive flavor: Singapore; where cosmopolitan entertainment can be fully enjoyed, Vietnam; with its merchandise and gourmet attractions, Indonesia; with internationally-recognized resort destinations such as Bali, and Laos; with its vast tracts of untouched wilderness, etc. ASEAN destinations can be enjoyed in any number of ways. Wouldn't you be interested in entering the contest with photos you've taken in ASEAN countries, photos that convey the attraction of ASEAN? It might be imagined that for future ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation, your one photo might offer strong support in its own small way.
