New foreign residents of Suginami Ward and Japanese residents deepen communication through outdoor parties. Participants cook lunch together and play communication games, and they can also experience an earthquake simulation vehicle, carry out emergency drills such as firefighting and evacuations, and learn to separate waste items for proper disposal. These events are held with the cooperation of the Emergency Division of the Ward Office, the Waste Disposal Office, and the Suginami Fire Station.

Japan Day is a day for introducing Japanese traditional culture (classical Japanese dance, flower arrangement, the tea ceremony, etc.) to foreign residents in Suginami Ward. The Cultural Group Association has cooperated by assigning instructors since the event's beginning in January 2002. This is one of our popular events held every year to enable actual experience of Japanese culture under the guidance of the instructors, such as putting on yukata, dancing Japanese classical dance, and trying Japanese flower arrangement or the tea ceremony.
